San Francisco based Mezzo-soprano Amy Bouchard is a singer, actor, and writer known for her beautiful vocal timbre, sensitive song interpretations, and stunning stage presence. Recently returning to her theatre roots, Amy is a 2021 Theatre Bay Area TITAN AWARD recipient and most recently made her Berkeley Playhouse debut in INTO THE WOODS. Other recent musical theatre credits include Mrs. Andersson in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC with Lamplighters Music Theater, and the following with San Jose Playhouse: Lead in SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM, Helena in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, and Claudia in NINE, for which she was nominated for “Best Featured Actress in a Musical” by Broadway World’s 2019 San Francisco awards.
Amy began her professional career performing in lead and supporting roles with numerous opera companies and as a featured orchestral soloist. Classically trained with a Master of Music in vocal performance, Amy is a NATS winner and a finalist in the St. Paul Schubert Club and Roy A. Schussler vocal competitions. After her formal training she was selected through national auditions for Opera Santa Barbara’s Young Artist Apprentice Program where she performed in their main-stage productions and studied with the late revered maestro, Valery Ryvkin and world-renowned piano collaborator Martin Katz. Her operatic credits include Zweite Dame in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE (AAMA, Salzburg, AUS), Dorabella in COSI FAN TUTTE (Opera Modesto), Elle in the one-woman opera, LA VOIX HUMAINE (UOT-Minneapolis), Valencienne in THE MERRY WIDOW (West Bay Opera) and Mercedes in CARMEN (Livermore Valley Opera). Symphonic engagements include her debuts with the Mendocino Music Festival Orchestra as the soloist in John Rutter’s MAGNIFICAT, and the Spokane Symphony as the mezzo-soprano soloist in Beethoven’s NINTH SYMPHONY. Amy was most recently featured by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra as the guest soloist for their annual Christmas Pops Concert.
A consummate recitalist, Amy frequently performs with Daniel Lockert- widely considered to be the finest vocal pianist in the Bay Area- and collaborates with musicians from the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, and national Broadway tours. She has gained recognition for her mastery of vocal technique and effortless ability to move between song genres. Her fresh and modern programming is a seamless flow from classical and modern art song to the Golden Era of Broadway and cabaret. Crossing over even further, Amy stepped onto her largest stages to date singing backing vocals for the Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band on their JEKYLL + HYDE national stadium tour.
Amy’s first solo show, AMADEUS NEVER GIVES ME THE BLUES was developed with David Ford and an excerpt from the show won a “Best Up and Coming” award at The Marsh International Solo Festival 2022. Upcoming performances of her full-length solo show include 2024 PlayGround Solo Fest and The Red Poppy Art House in San Francisco.
When not performing or teaching, Amy’s favorite places to be are in the mountains and in the water. She’s a Half-Marathon and Triathlon finisher and avid reader of modern fiction.
